How did you meet?

Emily was working in the Media Centre at the FIFA Women’s Cup in Ottawa during the summer of 2015. She ran into her photographer friend named Chris Roussakis. Emily gave Chris a number of free tickets to upcoming games. Darren, one of Chris’ friends, kept taking these free tickets, but Emily didn’t not know who he was. Darren eventually decided he should take Emily out for lunch as a thank you. After that they just kept on hanging out.

June 12, 2018 – The Proposal

Darren pulled off an epic surprise proposal. Emily was told she needed to go help with a photo shoot in the Peace Tower in Centre Block on Parliament Hill with her co-worker Fancy Mike. It was a very busy Tuesday and Emily was trying to get out of helping. She twice tried to send two students to go instead of her. Fancy Mike insisted she come. Emily was irritated and marched up to the Hill in the heat in her office dress and personal protective equipment. Once she got to the very top of the Peace Tower Darren was there and popped the question. Darren also arranged an engagement party at a nearby patio with some of the couple’s family and friends.

About Emily

Emily is not one to sit still for too long but Darren is definitely teaching her how to chill. She has lived and worked as a reporter all over the world. Her most epic experience to date was spending five years living and working in the Canadian Arctic. Emily is never afraid to try new things and is always up for an adventure. In her spare time, she is known to do some sewing and knitting, which Darren lovingly calls “her old lady hobbies”.
